Caring Services
Who we care for

We provide specialist palliative care for patients with progressive incurable life-limiting illness who have complex symptoms and psychosocial needs requiring the input of a multiprofessional palliative care team.  Inpatient care at the hospice may be offered to those who have needs that at the present time require assessment, treatment and monitoring as an inpatient.  Care is offered not on the basis of specific diagnosis (e.g. cancer), but on the basis of specialist needs.

We also provide terminal care, i.e. care for those in the last days of life, when such care cannot be adequately provided in a community setting (home or Nursing Home)

We do not routinely offer planned respite care.  However, this is occasionally offered to patients who have progressive incurable life-limiting illness and complex medical or nursing interventions requiring the input of a multiprofessional palliative care team, when such care can not easily be provided elsewhere.

What our patients say

Here are some of the things our patients and their families have said about us.  These are quoted directly from letters and cards received in 2007:

“I could not let this moment pass without saying how much I appreciate the wonderful way St Luke’s cared for my wife.  The thought, affection and kindness you all displayed was beyond comprehension.  I do thank you all at St Luke’s most sincerely for everything”.

“This is just a brief note to say a huge thank you for the care and dedication you gave (wife) over the last year, and the way you supported me and my family.  We think you are all angels”.

“Thank you so much for looking after my Dad and for always treating him with the respect, dignity and kindness that he deserved.  You do a wonderful job in extremely difficult circumstances and are a massive credit to your profession”.

“Please can we say a big thankyou to everyone at St Luke’s for the love and care they gave to our daughter ……  She often said you were all angels and she was certainly right.  We’ll never forget all you did for her and the entire family”.

“Many thanks for looking after my wife and me during our short stay with you.  You are truly wonderful with your care and unlimited consideration for our well being.  A better place I am sure could not be found”.

“Thanks for all your help.  One cannot put a price on what you have done for me….”
