The 20-bedded Hospice inpatient unit is located in a peaceful setting at Turnchapel near Plymouth. Here highly train St Luke's Nurses work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside doctors, social workers, a chaplain and a physiotherapist who are all specialists in palliative medicine.
Specialist Community Teams headed by St Luke's Specialist Palliative Care Nurses work out of historic Pearn House, close to Plymouth's city centre. They work in partnership with GPs and the district nursing service to provide Hospice expertise and care to patients who choose to remain at home with their families.
St Luke’s Day Hospice is also located at Pearn House. This is where outpatients can relax and socialise in a supportive and happy atmosphere with others who know at first hand just how they may be feeling. It is a place where many firm friendships are forged. At the Day Hospice patients also have access to therapeutic services and a growing number of complementary therapies.
A St Luke’s Specialist Palliative Care team is based at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital providing care for critically ill patients. In addition to caring for terminally ill patients at Derriford Hospital, the St Luke's team is able to share their expertise in pain and symptom control with medical colleagues who care for patients undergoing active treatments such as chemotherapy.
St Luke's is staffed by over 200 employed staff and more than 800 volunteers.
