Celebrating 30 years of quality care
In 2012, St Luke’s celebrates a new milestone as the hospice enters into its fourth decade of care for patients from across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.
We have been caring for thousands of terminally ill patients for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the past 30 years and our passion and dedication to offer dignity and choice has never dwindled. Our vision is to provide the very best of care to those with a life limiting illness and support their families, whenever and wherever they need it.
With pure devotion and commitment, staff and volunteers have shaped the hospice into what it is today. It has grown from a small, seven-bedded unit in Plymstock to a purpose built 20-bedded inpatient unit at Turnchapel with a Day Hospice at Pearn and a variety of specialist community services.
Statistics show that 1 in 5 people in this area will develop a terminal illness. Subsequently there is a growing need for specialist palliative and end of life care. In order to keep the hospice open, we have to raise at least £4.5 million every year from the communities we serve.
Since 1982, we have felt a strong presence of support from the community; their support has always been and will continue to be very important.
We appreciate the many partnerships, sponsors, loyal friends, advocates, patients and families we’ve had the pleasure to know during the last 30 years. It’s an honour to pause and simply say thank you.
Throughout 2012, St Luke’s Hospice has planned a host of additional exciting fundraising events and activities, in keeping with the ‘30’ theme. So watch this space!
