Imagine yourself as a ten-year-old, full of the excitement of Christmas. Would you be happy to have one present from Father Christmas and then give any gifts of money you received to charity?

We were blown away by the generous gesture of Thomas Lawrence, who lives in Tavistock with parents Paula and Andy and older brother Samuel. Thomas decided he would donate his Christmas money to St Luke’s after a family friend was cared for by our team before sadly passing away, while Samuel donated his to Clic Sargent.

It was great to meet Thomas, Paula and Andy, when they visited our specialist unit at Turnchapel recently. They met our Chief Executive, Steve Statham, and Thomas presented him with a cheque for £200, which was kindly topped up to £300 following a donation from his parents.

“Thomas did this completely unprompted,” said Paula. “We are extremely proud of him for thinking of others in this way, and it was great to meet some of the St Luke’s team and find out more about the difference they make to patients and families.”

A big thank you to Thomas and his family – you’re an inspiration!
