BLOG: Plymouth’s Winter Wonderland making a difference for St Luke’s
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Plymouth’s Winter Wonderland organiser Jack Fry and business partners David Monks and Simon Almond for inviting St Luke’s to be the official charity for this Christmas-themed family extravaganza in Central Park which runs until 1 January 2024.
Entrepreneur Jack made up his mind to support St Luke’s after hearing first-hand the impact our care has, not only on our patients, but on their family members too.
He said: “I was gobsmacked by what St Luke’s does for people. I came up to Turnchapel last Christmas to give out chocolates with Santa [aka Jack’s dad Jamie].
“I’m a bit funny around hospitals and I didn’t really want to come in and see, but we bumped into a family who had lost someone close and had a chat with them. I walked away feeling really touched by their story, how hard it was to get through every day and by what St Luke’s had done for them.
“We decided to support St Luke’s and try to make a difference.”
Jack and his team have already achieved that. This summer they promoted Party in the Park and the huge Tribute Festival in Central Park, which together raised more than £6,000 for St Luke’s – the equivalent of a package of care for six patients and their families at home.
We’re sure Winter Wonderland is on track to top that total!
