Caitlin’s flying high for compassionate care

Caitlin’s skydive for St Luke’s

“What better way to say thank you than to throw yourself out of a plane?!”

Caitlin Talbot took part in a skydive last month raising more than £1200 for our patient care. The 21-year-old, from Plymouth, who is currently completing a degree apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying, jumped from 15000 ft in memory of her loved ones.

“St Luke’s is a place that I hold very close to my heart and their mission is one that has supported my family in our hours of need,” she said. “Over the last decade, losing my Nan, Grandad and Auntie, the hospice has given us the time and a special place to make cherished memories, through such difficult, and sad times.

“The whole team at Turnchapel are honestly incredible. I will be forever grateful for what the hospice has done for my family and I knew I had to do something to show just that. The sky dive was a small token of thanks and appreciation for all that St Luke’s has done for my family. What better way to say thank you then to throw yourself out of a plane?!”

A surreal experience

For the self-professed ‘adrenaline junkie’ a skydive was the perfect challenge to help Caitlin raise funds to help other families who are going through the same.

“The skydive was honestly the best thing I have ever had the privilege of experiencing! The whole experience was so surreal and the view from 3 miles high was phenomenal. I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so I was more excited than anything. I think my mum was more petrified than me! Saying that, I only managed to keep my cool until they opened the door of the plane and I saw the other brave skydivers jumping out and disappearing underneath me.

“I am so beyond grateful to be able to support a charity as amazing as St Luke’s and to help them to continue providing an incredible service to many families just like mine.”

Are you up for the challenge?

Like Caitlin, do you want to combine the most exciting and exhilarating moment of your life with raising funds for a worthy cause? A Tandem Skydive is an easy and enjoyable way to experience the thrills of skydiving without having to learn how. The exhilarating freefall combined with the peace and tranquillity of the parachute ride makes Tandem Skydiving a unique experience you will never forget.

St Luke’s skydives give you the chance to have an experience of a lifetime and make a real difference to our patients in the last months, weeks and days of life. At home or at our specialist unit based in Turnchapel, the money you raise on your Skydive will help us to continue to provide specialist care for our patients and their families.
