Running for care: Darite’s festive dash

Darite Primary Academy near Liskeard brought the festive cheer to the moors with their amazing Rudolph Run! 

From Reception to Year 6, every child loved decorating their antlers, getting active in the fresh air, and raising money for a cause close to their hearts. Supporting St Luke’s means so much to this small but mighty school community, where families know first-hand the compassionate care we provide for loved ones at the end of life.

Head of School, Tom Whipps, said: “I’ve got really grown up year sixes and reception children. All of them love decorating their antlers, love raising money, love getting out in the fresh air and running around, having good exercise, good fun and all for a very, very good cause. We’re a small village school in Darite, up on the moors from Liskeard.

“We’ve done the Rudolph Run for two years now. We love raising money and the children have a fantastic afternoon doing it. It’s a really worthwhile cause.

“St Luke’s is so important because the work they do for their patients is invaluable and I know that some members of our school community and the village in general have had loved ones at St Luke’s for their final days. The fact that we know that they’re well looked after, they’re supported, they’re cared for, is so important and anything we can do to help is a bonus. Knowing the children like we do, we can adapt the way we tell them, the way we help them understand, because unfortunately death is a part of life and so at some point they will go through it. There’s a stigma attached to it. So the better prepared they can be, the more support we can give them as a school.”

Thank you to all the children who have taken part in our Rudolph Run. Their energy and enthusiasm remind us why these events matter – not just for fun and fitness, but for making a real difference.
