Walking our Midnight Walk in memory of David

Celebrating memories of David at St Luke’s Midnight Walk

It will be cherished memories spurring on the friends and loved ones of ‘family man’ David Hambly at our Midnight Walk on Friday 11 July, as they will be celebrating his life after he sadly died earlier this month.

Louise Peters’ very good friend David, 46, was being cared for by St Luke’s in his final days. In honour of his memory and as a way of saying thank you to St Luke’s for the care he and his wife and two children received, Louise will be completing the 5 mile walk along with lots of friends, colleagues and one of David’s brothers and his family, including his young niece.

So far, the walkers have raised more than £2,500 in his memory, raising an incredible £2,000 in just two days since Louise set up the JustGiving page.

Louise, who works for Persimmon Homes, only signed up for the walk recently, while David was still receiving our care, as a way of helping give back.

She said: “A lot of friends were saying to me, I really wish we could do something to help him. And, obviously, there was nothing that any of us could actually do. So, I suggested we all take part in the Midnight Walk.

“David knew that we were doing this for him, and he sent me a text message saying he knew what we’ve been up to and how much it meant to him.”

Louise and David first met many years ago when they used to work together at Bakare and then in more recent years at Secure Innovation and became firm friends.

“St Luke’s is a fantastic charity, that has looked after one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. David showed so much strength throughout his treatment and living with his terminal diagnosis. He was just a true family man. He would literally do anything for his family and friends. I really think that it is because of the person he was, that is why we’ve had the support that we’ve had.”

Paired with their pink Midnight Walk t-shirts, the group will also be donning festive Christmas-themed accessories, in honour of David, as he loved Christmas so much.
