Our showroom launch thank-you to big-hearted local business Roger Young

Roger Young – helping us to go the extra mile

This week we’re proud to help mark a major milestone for the car dealership Roger Young that have helped us go the extra mile in Cornwall over the winter.

Bee and Vicky from St Luke’s urgent care service were thrilled to cut the ribbon to officially open Roger Young’s new Suzuki showroom in Saltash on Monday and thank the company for their generous support.

Our nursing teams deliver compassionate care to patients and their families at home, wherever and whenever it’s needed across Plymouth and surrounding areas, so it’s vital for them to have vehicles they can rely on.

Stepping in for safely delivered patient care

When we launched our pilot East Cornwall service last December, Roger Young and his team were quick to step in, lending us a four wheel drive Jaguar car to make sure we could reach all our patients safely, whatever the conditions.

“It has been an absolute godsend, allowing us to get to some of the places we have needed to get to in some really awful weather,” said Bee and Vikki, whose team cover a large, mostly rural, catchment area.

“That includes patients living down farm lanes in the middle of nowhere, but we’ve been able to negotiate bumpy tracks with no problem. Plus, the car is easy to drive, and it looks beautiful too!”

That’s not all the local business has done for St Luke’s recently. At Christmas they hosted a ‘Cards and Cars’ charity evening and auction in partnership with Prydis, which raised more than £10,000 for our patient care.

Managing director Roger Young, pictured with Bee, Vicky and our CEO George Lillie, said: “We’ve always recognised St Luke’s as such a good organisation. Unfortunately so many of us know people who need their support.

“We try to do something for a local group or charity every year, and we were happy to be able to support St Luke’s with a four wheel drive car in the winter months to get to patients.”

Thank you Roger Young

A big thank you goes to Roger and the team, and we wish you every success with the new Suzuki dealership.

Road to London: Stu’s story

For Stu Collyer, running has never come naturally - certainly not the kind of miles that lead to the London Marathon, and definitely not the kind of training carried out on the cramped flight deck of a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship.
