Sponsored by JEM Scaffolding Ltd, Men’s Day Out is so much more than a fun, banter-fuelled outing to revel in with your mates – it’s also about being mindful of men’s mental health and the impact of bereavement while bringing in vital funds for St Luke’s. As we all know, real strength is shown by opening up, so we invite you to walk with us and share the load.
Many of you walk in memory of loved ones but, let’s face it, men are masters at masking our emotions, even after losing someone we care deeply about. Sharing our feelings can make a big difference, and Men’s Day Out offers a great opportunity to drop the brave face and open up to others who know what we are going through.
The iconic event – the biggest men’s charity walk of its kind in the South West and beyond – has gained huge momentum over the years. Since it was first held in 2014, with just 574 walkers, it has raised more than £1 million through sponsorship and donations to fund the clinical, practical and emotional support St Luke’s provides for people in their last months, weeks and days of life and their families.
Registration costs just £35, but that only covers your official Men’s Day Out T-shirt, refreshments, a ticket for the rugby and event costs. It’s individual sponsorships and donations that really make a difference, and many entrants set themselves a fundraising target to tot up their total as they mark the miles. Last year a record-breaking 2,500 men put their best foot forward for hospice care and this year we want to beat that. If every walker raises at least £100 we could raise enough money to provide care at home for 300 people.
Places for the event always go fast. So, dodge the scrum, sign up now and start asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you.
