Grace’s cycle ride for hospice care

A granddaughter who has just learnt to ride a bike will be putting her skills to the test at our Tour de Moor.

7-year-old Grace Pepperell from Plympton learnt to ride her bike six months ago, fast forward to Sunday 13 October and she will be taking on our 11km family friendly mini-moor.

Grace, who turns 8 on 14 August, will be doing the ride along with her dad Liam and grandad Ian Maguire. Ian said: “She decided to take part for the first time this year to have fun and help raise money for more needy people.

“She’s looking forward to it, I just haven’t told her about the hill at the end!”

Ian’s father and Grace’s great-grandad received end of life care from the St Luke’s team back in 2017, while Grace’s dad Liam also experienced St Luke’s help with his own gran, Grace’s great-gran’s end of life care last year. Our nurses were able to make her feel at home for the last few days of her life. The family said they couldn’t have been more grateful for St Luke’s support and help. So completing our Tour de Moor will be a special way for Grace, her dad and her grandad to say thank you for the care her great-grandparents received.

The ride will count towards Grace’s Brownies charity badge, by helping to make a difference to others. She has already surpassed her £100 fundraising goal raising £170 for our patient care so far.

Our Tour de Moor, sponsored by Print, Copy Scan, part of the Anglotech Group, is best known as an adrenaline packed two-wheel quest that can test the skills, fitness, and endurance of even the toughest of cyclists. But it’s so much more than that. With three distances and difficulty levels to choose from, it’s the ultimate inclusive family friendly cycling adventure.

From the 11km Mini-moor along Drake’s trail which Grace is completing, to the 28km Adventurer Style route and the ultimate challenge ‘Beast Mode’ – 53km of cycling at its fiercest, there is something for all the family.

Your fee covers our costs to run this event, but it’s your sponsorship and generous donations that really make the difference.

What’s more if like Grace you raise over £100 in sponsorship and have paid it in by 29 November 2024 you will be entered into a draw to win exciting prizes from Certini Bicycle Company.
