BLOG: Bigger, better and brimming with bargains, St Luke’s opens new charity shop in Plymstock

We were excited to officially open our new shop in the heart of Plymstock this week, welcoming customers in search of budget-friendly buys that support vital services for the community.

As customers browsed for bargains at our new Plymstock Broadway store on Monday, they were treated to live music courtesy of talented performers from Plymstock School.
Easy to find, the shop is located just a few doors down from the St Luke’s outlet it has replaced. Bright, modern, and double the size of its predecessor, it offers shoppers a wider choice of good-quality, stylish, pre-loved clothes for men, women and children, as well as an array of attractive homeware and a treasure trove of toys. Open seven days a week, the spacious new store is continuing the trusted retail service St Luke’s has been providing on Plymstock Broadway since the 1980s.

BLOG: St Luke’s launches major city art trail and auction for 2026

A spectacular lighthouse art trail is set to brighten the streets of Plymouth in 2026, uniting the community through creativity while raising much-needed funds and awareness for the compassionate end of life services St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth provides for patients and their loved ones.
St Luke’s Guiding Lights promises to be one of Devon’s most ambitious, must-see, family-friendly events for next summer. It will run for 10 weeks, culminating in a grand auction of the striking exhibited sculptures to the highest bidders.

BLOG: How your old spare change can transform into cash for our care

They hide down the backs of sofas, long forgotten in an old wallet or purse, or are tucked away in a box in the attic…we have all rediscovered spare currency – whether British or foreign – hidden somewhere in our homes.
One of our volunteers had a great surprise last week when a few kindly donated old banknotes made over £700 in profit for St Luke’s care after listing them on our ebay store. He is now asking everyone to consider donating any unneeded or old currency to St Luke’s.
Ian Anderson has been volunteering for St Luke’s for the last 12 years and has been putting his unique skills to the test helping out with our ebay department based at our Western Approach store.

Getting married and giving birth are milestones in our lives that we always imagine our parents will be around to witness.
For Emma Fleming-Cooney, it was thanks to the comforting care of St Luke’s that enabled her mum Trisha Hilton to be able to watch her as she said I do to her now husband Thomas and meet her baby boy.
This summer Emma is embarking on an epic challenge of walking 300 miles in memory of her mum and as a way of saying thank you to St Luke’s for the care the family received.

BLOG: Megan’s mighty challenge for Nanny Pearl

For many of us, holidays such as Easter and Christmas are when many of our memories with family are made, so they can be particularly poignant when you are missing a loved one.

It will be family memories spurring on one supporter as she takes on the Swansea 70.3 Ironman this summer in memory of her grandmother.

Megan Williams will be taking on the epic challenge in memory of her Nanny Pearl, who was cared for by St Luke’s before sadly, she died in December 2022.
