A midnight walk shaped by love, memory and an unexpected friendship
It was grief for her father that led to an unexpected friendship for Louise Sherwin, who will be taking part in our Midnight Walk on Friday 10 July.

Volunteers are the quiet strength behind St Luke’s, offering time, compassion and practical help when it matters most. During Volunteers’ Week 2026 (1 – 7 June), we celebrate the generosity, resilience and humanity of the people who support our patients, families and communities every day.
It was a proud day for us in Plymouth yesterday as we had over 68 incredible runners taking on the half marathon and 10k in aid of St Luke’s.
As the sun shone down on our capital city yesterday, our St Luke’s runners took every step of the London Marathon with courage, care and compassion in mind. Behind every bib number was a story, a memory, or a reason that carried our 10 runners through all 26.2 miles and helped them to raise an incredible £30,000 for our patient care.
Life changes. And often, our wills do not keep up.
Marriage, separation, children, grandchildren, moving house, or caring for someone else can all affect what we want to happen in the future. Our Make a Will Fortnight is a chance to pause and put things in order.
For Stu Collyer, running has never come naturally – certainly not the kind of miles that lead to the London Marathon, and definitely not the kind of training carried out on the cramped flight deck of a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship.
Local vet Sinéad Short will be swapping her stethoscope for her trainers next weekend, as she takes on the Dartmoor Marathon in memory of her father. Taking place on Sunday 12 April, the marathon will see Sinéad – originally from Yelverton – taking on the stunning, yet rugged landscapes of Dartmoor, all while raising money for St Luke’s.
Get ready – St Luke’s iconic Midnight Walk returns for 2026! Step out under the stars to celebrate treasured memories of loved ones and raise vital funds for the compassionate local care we deliver across the community.
When three friends from Plymouth set off from Dover today, they’ll be carrying far more than their bikes and kit. They’ll be kicking off one of many challenges in their year long mission to raise £15,000 to help St Luke’s care for families across our community.
One man is going the extra mile – literally – at our Men’s Day Out next week, to honour Plymouth Albion’s beloved ‘Queen’ – Anne Prue.
Sam Lever, from Plymouth, is the Vice-chairman and interim secretary for Plymouth Albion 200club. On Saturday 14 March he will be walking our Men’s Day Out for the second year running in memory of Anne, who was an avid supporter of St Luke’s and secretary of the 200club.
